Gertrude Wright, age 95 of St. Peter, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Benedictine Court in St. Peter.
Memorial service will be 11:00am Saturday, January 26, 2019, Trinity Lutheran Church, with visitation beginning at 9:00am. Private family interment will take place at a later date. Remembrances can be left for the family at www.saintpeterfuneralhome.com.
Gertrude was born on December 22, 1923 in Conklin, MI, to Martin and Amanda (Walter) Merz. She graduated from Sparta MI High School in 1941 and attended Business College in Grand Rapids, MI. She worked as a stenographer for the War Department in Military Intelligence and Joint (Army-Navy) Security Control at the Pentagon in Washington DC from 1942-1945. Gertrude was united in marriage to James Wright on November 3, 1945, in Bridgeman MI. They made their home in St. Peter where she was employed by Lagers, Inc and she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was active in women’s activities of Trinity Lutheran Church, the church choir, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, volunteered for the St. Peter Area Food Shelf and Meals on Wheels and enjoyed family, traveling, reading and music.
Left to remember Gertrude are her children: Robert (Richie) of St. Peter; Paul (Marquetta Mitchell) of Scappoose OR; Sandra (Verl) Pettis of St. Peter; Richard (Barb) of St. Peter; Mark (Barbara Beystrom) of Plymouth MN; and Lori Schwichtenberg (Perry McDonough) of Mankato; grandchildren: Dan (Maureen) and Steve (Natasha) Pettis, Kelcie (Josh) Fix and Derik (Callie) Wright, and Taylor Schwichtenberg; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James; her parents; one grandson; one brother; and two sisters.
