Verda B. Beatty

Verda B. Beatty, age 93 of St. Peter, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Rivers Edge Hospital.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 am on Monday, December 31, 2018 at St. Peter Lutheran Church with burial at Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 – 5:00 pm Sunday, December 30, and 10:00 am Monday all at the church. Verda was born on November 21, 1925 in Winthrop, MN, to Henry and Martha (Fischer) Witt. She graduated from Winthrop High School in 1943 and then attended Mankato Commercial College. Verda was united in marriage to James Robert Beatty on November 9, 1947 at Zion Lutheran in Winthrop. She worked for the Winthrop State Bank, Sibley County Extension office and later as secretary at MacKenzie, Gustafson and Litynski Law office, retiring in 1989. Verda was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church since 1958 by being involved as a Sunday School teacher, church choir member, tutor at the school, and with the Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL) as secretary. During her 18 years wintering in TX with Jim, she was also a tutor helping children learn English. She enjoyed reading, knitting, water exercising, doing ceramics and caring for her cats and dogs. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s school and athletic events.

Left to remember Verda are her children: Thomas (Barbara) of Faribault, Bruce (Debra) of New Ulm and Patrice (John) Cornelius of Sunnyside WA; grandchildren: Dana (Shane) Pemrick, Sarah Beatty, Laura (Alex) Sammon, Matthew (Briana) Beatty, Emily (Jason) Hoefs, Martha (Derek) Weber, Megan Cornelius and Nathan (Maria) Cornelius; great grandchildren: Amelia, Grady, Quinn, Leah, Kellan, Keira, Claire, Nolan, Tessa, Gavin, Lincoln, BreeLynn, and Blair; sister Alice Stephenson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband James R. Beatty in 2007, her parents, sister Vera and brother-in-law, Ervin Abraham, brother Clifford and sister-in-law Eleanore Witt, and brother-in-law Miles Stephenson.
