James Henry Jansen, 80, of St. Peter, passed away peacefully at Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter on Saturday, December 15, 2018.
James was born December 20, 1937 in Ghent, Minnesota to Henry and Anna (Bult) Jansen. The family moved to the Le Sueur area in 1940 and lived on several farms between Le Sueur and St. Peter from 1945-1967. He attended John Ireland Catholic School in St. Peter.
Jimmy was employed at Hiniker Company in Mankato for 34 years, retiring in 2007. Upon retiring, he enjoyed driving the countryside, visiting many restaurants, and socializing with waitresses and staff – making a point of defending his preference for Dodge cars to anyone who would listen. Helping others were his most enjoyable and satisfying moments.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Werner, Hubert, Joseph, and Ray; and sisters, Antoinette and Theresa.
Jimmy is survived by his siblings, Mary Jansen Popp of Anoka, Anthony Jansen of St. Peter, and Jane Jansen of Maple Grove. He will be dearly missed by his friends, many nieces and nephews, and special friend, Janet Doerr.
Visitation will be held from 5-8pm, Friday, December 21, 2018 at the St. Peter Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will be 11am, Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Catholic Church of St. Peter with visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter. Please share a memory of Jimmy with his family at www.saintpeterfuneralhome.com.
The family prefers memorials be directed to the Catholic Church of St. Peter.
