Phyllis Rae (Floria) Disher, age 92, died Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Benedictine Memory Care in St. Peter. Phyllis died from Alzheimer’s and a recent stroke.
Memorial service will be held at 2pm, Friday, December 7, 2018 at the St. Peter Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. Refreshments will be served following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Mayo Hospice, Alzheimer’s Association, and Benedictine Memory Care.
Phyllis was born on October 13, 1926 to Vern and Margaret (Dean) Floria in Munising, MI. Phyllis was one of four children born to Vern and Margaret. She graduated from Mather High School. She went on to attend St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Marquette, MI and graduated on October 16, 1948.
Phyllis married Peter Disher on September 3, 1949. They moved to Galesburg, IL where she worked as a nurse. While living there, she gave birth to a daughter, Cathy, who was their only child. In 1961, the family moved to Brookfield, WI. Phyllis worked at Menominee Falls Community Hospital and retired from her nursing career in 1974. Phyllis and Peter enjoyed traveling, golfing, and entertaining friends. Phyllis and Pete moved to St. Peter, MN in 2006 to be near their daughter and grandchildren. They continued to live in their condo until Pete passed away in 2017. Phyllis then moved into the Benedictine Living Community Memory Care Unit, due to her Alzheimer’s, and continued to reside there until her death.
Throughout her life, Phyllis enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cats, playing piano, doing word and jigsaw puzzles, and playing bridge. Munising was always her home in her heart and she would visit family when she was able.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Cathy Zahn; grandchildren, Jim (Kathryn) Zahn, Beth Zahn (significant other, Chad Reyna), and Becky (Charlie) Rustman; great-grandchildren, Noah and Silas Rustman; step-grandchild, Evan; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter Disher; brothers, Dean Floria and Tom Floria; sister, Carol; brother-in-law, Chap; and son-in-law, Tom Zahn.
