Visitation will be from 3:00 -6:00 Sunday at the church and also one hour prior to the service Monday. Interment will be at Eastside Cemetery in Estherville, IA. Jay was born on October 26, 1963 in Estherville, IA to Harvey & Harriet (Reimers) Hansen. He graduated from Estherville High School in 1982 and from Mankato State University in 1987 with a degree in Finance and Accounting.
Jay and Barb Hall were married in 1989 in Mapleton, MN. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters Hannah Marie-Kim Hansen who was born in October 1999 and Mia Vonnee-Kim Hansen who was born in July 2002.
Jay loved his career in finance. He worked at First National Bank in St. Peter, MN; Valley Bank in North Mankato, MN; Klein Bank in Buffalo, MN; and ended his career working for the Gault Family at Nicollet County Bank in St. Peter, MN. He enjoyed helping customers and the relationships that he developed with them through banking. Jay was active in the St. Peter community being a member of Rotary where he served as President, Region 9 EDA committee member, St. Peter Chamber of Commerce former board member and a former member of St. Peter Ambassadors.
Jay was an avid golfer and loved everything about the sport. He was so happy about Mia’s interest in his beloved sport and most recently loved watching her golf. Jay also loved watching college sports – especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. Hannah shared her Dad’s love of the Iowa Hawkeyes. They enjoyed watching and going to Iowa Hawkeye Football games together in Iowa City. Jay was very interested in cars and collecting coins. His happiest places were being at the Shoreland Golf Course walking 18 holes of golf and being in his home state of Iowa “God’s Country” as he always called it. But the absolute greatest joy of Jay’s life were his daughters Hannah and Mia. He was so very proud of them, always talking about them and he loved them very much. Jay had a very big heart and his love for Hannah and Mia really defined him. He was so thankful to be their Dad and loved their time together, which sadly was much too brief.
Jay was preceded in death by his grandparents. Jay is survived by his daughters Hannah and Mia Hansen of St. Peter, MN; his parents Harvey and Harriet Hansen of Estherville, IA; his brother Keith (Jane) Hansen of New Hope, MN; his sister Joleen (Doug) Blacksten of Granville, OH; his brother Don Hansen of Chicago, IL; nieces Michele and Lisa Hansen of New Hope, MN; Jill Blacksten of Granville, OH; nephew David Blacksten of Granville, OH; the mother of his daughters Barb Hansen of St. Peter, MN & many close friends.
Jay’s family would like to thank the Gault Family and staff at Nicollet County Bank ; St. Croix Hospice; the Church of St. Peter & St. Peter Funeral Home.
