Bernita 93, of St. Peter, MN died peacefully October 2, 2018 at her home in Benedictine Court. She was born March 11, 1925 in Mankato, MN to Matthew and Kathryn (Mans) Michels and grew up on her family farm in Belgrade Township.
Bernita married Lyle Seitzer and lived on the Seitzer family farm in Oshawa Township. She and Lyle raised a family and grew the farm until retirement in 1983. They moved to St. Peter in 1991 and she moved into Benedictine Court in 2017.
Bernita enjoyed playing bridge and card games. She was also a very successful gardener and an excellent baker especially her breads and rolls. She volunteered at the St. Peter Catholic Church, the Thrift Store and sang with the Funeral Choir. She loved music, dancing, walking and was an avid reader. She was a long time Minnesota Twins fan and rarely missed a broadcasted game. Bernita loved her family and was always eager to attend social events with them.
Bernita is survived by sons Steven, Minneapolis, John (Lynne), Boothbay Harbor ME, William (Diane), Dassel, Dale (Bettie), Roseville and Peter (Ann), St. Peter, daughter Karen (Dean) Halls, Austin and daughter in law Sue Seitzer, St. Peter. She is also survived by sister Nadine (Tom) Hanson, brother Lloyd (Donna) Michels and sister in law Peg (Hubert) Seitzer. Bernita is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle and son David. Brothers Richard (Delores) and Gordon (Sally) and sisters Donna (Marvin) Dumdei and Karene (Tom) Person.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11 am with visitation starting at 9:30 at St. Peter Catholic Church. There will be a lunch at the church following interment of the ashes at Calvary Cemetery.
