Joyce (Rydell) Johnson, a 1945 graduate of Rosholt, South Dakota High School and the wife of Miles Johnson, died at the age of 91 on August 26, 2018 in Sun City West, Arizona where she and her husband made their home after moving from California in 1989. Joyce, the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Fredrickson) Rydell, was born in Fairmount, North Dakota on March 21, 1927.
Joyce was the eleventh child and the youngest girl in a family of eight brothers and three sisters. She was raised in the Depression and was always very thrifty. She loved her family and friends and had a sense of adventure.
As a young girl she planned to attend Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter MN. When she met Miles she went on to become an airline stewardess in the early 50’s and then married Miles in 1952 and settled in California. They both became Teachers and traveled extensively. Joyce loved to travel and play bridge.
Joyce is survived by her daughter Lynn Rodriguez (Pat), granddaughter Jennifer (Ryan) and their Children Ella, Ryder, and Miles. Granddaughter Amy (Jose) and their children Nico and Callie and they also have a child due in October. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Rydell, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Miles and her daughter Gloria.Joyce was well loved.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Union Presbyterian Church in St. Peter with burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery, St. Peter. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family.
