Thomas “Stan” Solberg, age 83 of St. Peter, died on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital in Mankato.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 am on Monday, April 30, 2018 at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Lutheran Church, Gustavus Adolphus Men’s Hockey or Mayo Mankato Palliative Care. Thomas Stanley was born on January 4, 1935 in Spring Grove to Alphy and Benora (Harstad) Solberg. He graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1953 and attended Luther College until joining the US Navy and serving on the USS Newport News. Stan was united in marriage to Carol J. Rans at Bethlehem Lutheran in Mankato on October 2, 1965. He worked as a MN State Trooper from 1961 until retiring in 1990. He then drove motorcoach for Mankato Land to Air until his retirement in 2005. He particularly enjoyed his bus trips transporting the Gustavus Men’s Hockey Team. He enjoyed fishing, coin collecting, gardening, watching sports and cherished his three granddaughters and always looked forward to their visits.
Left to remember Stan are his wife, Carol; daughter, Stacy (John) Markert of Shakopee, MN; son, Marc (Mary Kay) of Story City, IA; granddaughters: Amanda and Katie Markert and Alynn Solberg; siblings: Margaret, Judy, David and Don; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey and siblings: Alden, Naomi, Charlie, Paul, Robert, Helen and Lyla.
