Berniece Fortier

February 8, 1922 — August 10, 2017

Berniece Fortier of St. Peter and formerly Cleveland, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the age of 95.  Visitation will be at St. Peter Funeral Home – Klein Chapel on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, from 5:00 -8:00 pm and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16th at the Church of Nativity in Cleveland, with burial at the Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter.
Berniece Funfsinn was born on February 8, 1922 in Remsen, Iowa to John and Rose (Fassler) Funfsinn. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Fortier on October 16, 1944 at St. John’s Catholic in Mankato. She and Bill farmed in the Mankato and St. Peter areas until 1962 when they moved to Cleveland. She was a farmwife and homemaker as well as worked various other jobs outside the home. She was a member of the Church of the Nativity CCW, the American Legion Auxiliary and was on the Cleveland City Council. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, dancing, spending time with her grandchildren and visiting friends.
She is survived by four children: twins Barbara Sayler of Engelwood, Colorado and Robert Fortier and wife, Barbara (Loeffler) Fortier of Waterville, MN, Nancy Rezac and husband, Richard Rezac of Waterville, MN, and Janean Numan-Fortier and husband, Daric Numan-Fortier of Minneapolis, MN; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death her husband Bill in 2011 and five siblings.
