Judith “Judy” L. Ballman, age 73, of North Mankato, died Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Oak Terrace Assisted Living.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter, with Rev. Joy Ekstedt officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Davita Dialysis or Alzheimer’s Association. St. Peter Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Judy was born October 21, 1943, in St. Peter. She was the daughter of Leonard and Gladys (Harmeyer) Ballman. Judy was a 1961 graduate of Le Center High School and a 1962 graduate of Mankato Commercial College. She was employed with Green Giant and Federated Insurance.
Judy was united in marriage to Raymond Gasta on February 20, 1965. They lived in Illinois and southern California for the next four years while Raymond finished an enlistment with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to Minnesota in 1969, Judy worked at Mankato State University, the City of Mankato, Woodmen Accident & Life, and Region V Computer Services. Judy and Raymond divorced in 1981. Her working career also included part-time work for James Brandt Law Office and St. Peter Community Hospital. She retired in 2008 from the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center after 28 years of employment. Judy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter. She enjoyed cooking, listening to music, reading, and visiting with friends and family.
Judy is survived by her son, Chris (Kathy) Gasta of Atlanta, GA; two grandsons, Alex and Sam Gasta of Atlanta, GA; sister, Jan (Larry) Woitas of Mankato; two very special nieces, Amy (David) Mueller and their children, Abbey, Cassie, and Joseph of rural Madison Lake and Nikki (Andy) Smith and their children, Braeden and Tyler of Cleveland; also aunts, including special aunt, Frances Bahl of Winona and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
