Charles M. Cheney, age 74 of St. Peter, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato
Visitation is 4:00-7:00pm Thursday, June 29, 2017 at St. Peter Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with honors.
Charles was born on May 22, 1943 in Mankato to Glen and Evelyn (Steffen) Cheney. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1962 and then served in the US Navy during Vietnam. Charles was united in marriage to Sandra M. Soares on October 2, 1965 in Oakland, CA. He worked at the Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco and the Mare Island Shipyard in Vallejo CA before retiring and moving back to St. Peter. He was a member of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), The St. Peter American Legion and the Vietnam Veterans Last Man’s Club. He enjoyed collecting and watching movies, fishing, being a handyman, traveling to the USS Ranger Reunion Association gatherings and his cat, KayJay.
Left to remember Charles are his wife, Sandra; son, Dion; sister, Joyce Konradi of Worthington and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Vivian Mork, Mary Burger, Gloria Brock and Glenda Sonnabend.
