Retired St. Peter dentist Dr. Joseph McGregor Dobie, age 91, died Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 5:00 pm Sunday, May 7th at St. Peter Funeral Home with a Prayer and Masonic service to follow. Memorials can be given to River’s Edge Hospital in St. Peter. Dr. Dobie was born November 22, 1925 to Joseph J. and Luverne (McGregor) Dobie in Mankato. He grew up in Mapleton and graduated from Mapleton High School in 1943. He served in the Navy during World War II. After the war he graduated from Macalester College in 1948 and the College of Dentistry at the University of Minnesota in 1952. Dr. Dobie practiced dentistry in Truman for 8 years and for 32 years in St. Peter. He taught part time at the University of Minnesota for 5 years. Dr. Dobie married Mary Justice on August 6, 1948. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge, Zuhrah Shrine, American Legion and various civic and professional organizations. He is survived by his wife; a son Scott (Amber) Dobie of Mankato; daughter Mary Ann (Rick) Souers of Owatonna; 5 grandchildren: Becky (Bob) Johansen, Joey (Meagan) Dobie; Beth (Jason) Calderala, Jen (fiancé Trent) Souers, and Andrew (special friend Rose) Souers; great grandchildren: Lilly and Marilyn Johansen and Ayden and Jackson Calderala. He was preceded in death by his parents. He will be interred in Sterling Cemetery in Blue Earth County.
