Gary A. Lundberg, 78 of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems surround by his family. Funeral services will be held at Kasota Presbyterian Church, Kasota, MN at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 28th. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Gary was born in Quimby, Iowa on June 29, 1938 to Van and Marie Lundberg. They moved to North Mankato when Gary was young. He attended catholic school and was an altar boy at Holy Rosary Church in North Mankato. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 19 and was a postal clerk on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Philippine Sea.
On June 3, 1961, Gary was united in marriage to Lois Leonard. He worked for Dotson & Co. for many years. He purchased the restaurant in Kasota and later
Mr. L’s Bar in Kasota. Mr. L’s Bar sponsored many baseball and softball teams throughout the years.
Gary helped to start the Turkey Grower’s Association in Kasota with Bud Danner. He was also on the City Counsel of Kasota and sponsored Kasota Quarry Days for many years. In later years, he worked for Lager’s in Mankato until he retired. And after retirement, he kept busy by working at the Dish Doctors in St. Peter, MN.
Gary loved to go camping, hunt and fish. Gary could spend hours wetting his line. He also loved to watch western movies. But what Gary loved the most, was cheering on his grandchildren, Benjamin and Addison, with their sporting events. He was Benjamin’s #1 fan and Addison best fishing buddy.
Gary is survived by his wife, Lois. His daughters Terri (Bob) Jones, Vernon Center, MN; Lynn Lundberg (Mike), Cleveland, MN. Sisters Nancy Orbell, Woodbury, MN; Kay (Chuck) Starken of Phoenix, AZ. Sister-in-Law, Alberta Lanars; Brother-in-Law, Curt Leonard, St. Peter, MN; Grandchildren include Bonnie (Ed) Powell, Fort Meyers, FL; Tim Burgess , Madison Lake, MN; Benjamin and Addison, Cleveland, MN; Brandi (Mike) Dokken of Pemberton, MN; Brandon Jones of Lake City, MN; and Bradly Jones of Rochester, MN. Great grandchildren include Owen and Toriin Dokken, Keara Powell; and Faith Burgess. And many nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Van and Marie; mother and father-in-law Margaret and Almond Leonard, brother James Lundberg, and many aunts and uncles.
