James “Jim” Vetter

July 26, 1946 — February 1, 2016

James “Jim” Vetter, age 69 of Kasota, died Monday, February 1, 2016 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 am Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter. Visitation is 4:00 – 7:00pm Friday at the church with a prayer service at 7:00pm. Visitation is also 10:00 am Saturday. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jim was born on July 26, 1946 to Walter and Bernice (Homer) Vetter. He attended Kasota School and graduated in 1965 from St. Peter High School. He married Nancy M. Sparks on July 12, 1969. James worked and retired from Vetter Stone Company after 46 years and was also a partner of Vetter Sales and Service until 2005. In his younger years, he was active in Boy Scouts of America, receiving his Eagle Scout Award. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time with his yellow Lab, Sara. In retirement, Jim found many new adventures including: being an avid gardener; tilling, planting and tending his food plot for deer; and enjoying taking rides in his Ranger with his dog Sara and her best friend Tip. Most of all, he enjoyed his time with family.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy of Kasota; father: Walter Vetter of Kasota; siblings: Kathy (Dean) Steiner of St. Peter and Jerry (Cathy) Vetter of North Mankato; nephews and nieces: Kimberly, Mark, Andrew and Steven Giebel; Michael, Erika, Lucy and Ty Steiner; Dustin, Anthony and Aydon Vetter; Ryan and Annie Vetter; Jason and Jaimie Vetter; and uncles Howard and Willard Vetter; and many cousins and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice in 2012; grandparents: Paul and Ethel Vetter and Frederick Homer and Caroline Homer Young; aunts and uncles: Joyce Vetter, Paul (Shirley) Vetter, Albert (Lora) Homer, Walter (Beverlee) Homer, and Vernon “Spike” (Marge) Homer; and several cousins.
