Marilyn Olmanson, age 82 of St. Peter died on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at her home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Norseland Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the start of the service. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Marilyn Elaine (Hanson) Olmanson was born on December 5, 1932, on the home farm of her parents, Bennett and Martha (Kelm)Hanson near Norseland MN. She was baptized by Rev. Gullerud, attended the Norseland Lutheran Christian Day School, was confirmed and married by Rev. M.E. Tweit, and attended Bethany Lutheran High School. She completed her GED in 1971 when two of her children graduated from high school. Marilyn was united in marriage at her parents' home to Duane F. Olmanson on October 28, 1949. Marilyn passed away at her home on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. Marilyn was a homemaker, very interested in her children's upbringing, schooling and activities. During this time she also helped out on the farm. As the children grew older, Marilyn took work as a clerk at Skogmos, Brauns, and was a proofreader and columnist at the St. Peter Herald until 1981. Marilyn continued to write a weekly "newsy" column for the St. Peter Herald, Lafayette Ledger, and Gaylord Hub, until 2006. During her lifetime, she taught Saturday School, was "Make It Yourself With Wool" Director, held many offices in the Ladies Aid, Farm Bureau, Sons of Norway, and the Monday Morning Friendship Club. Marilyn loved baseball, sports and 4-H activities her children and grandchildren were in, games (cards, checkers, Yahtzee), baking, embroidery, latch hook, reading, music, travel and flower gardening. She loved to enter things at area fairs and cherished the championship ribbons. Marilyn is survived by her husband of 66 years, Duane; 4 daughters, Wanda (Marvin) Berke, Rockton IL; Doris (Ronald) Rollefson, Ward SD; Anita (Tom)Wise, Queen Creek AZ; Brenda Davis, St. Peter MN; son, Kent Olmanson, Waseca MN. 16 grandchildren: Aaron (Heather) Olmanson, Melissa (Bud) Barnhart, Andrea (Joe) Schumacher, Jesse (Jenny) Olmanson, Spencer (Tara) Berke, Stephanie (Ryan) Hedstrom, Tanecia (Chris Bee) Wise, Taylor Wise, Samuel Rollefson, Teanna (Jeremy) Stadum, Trenton Wise, Lexi (Andy) May, Greta (Nathan) Petry, Gabrielle Davis, Raquel Davis, Wyatt Davis; 23 great grandchildren; one sister, Bea Hanson; one brother, Bernie Hanson (Corrine Bergerson); sister-in-law, Lorraine Hanson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and brother, James Hanson. Memorials may be directed to the Norseland Lutheran Church or the Bethany Lutheran College Seminary Scholarship fund.
