Kathryn Winterfeldt

Kathryn Winterfeldt, 64 of Gibbon, Minn. Died April 16, 2015 at her home in Gibbon attended by family. Kathryn Jean Weispfenning was born December 6, 1950 in Moorhead, Minn., the daughter of Marvin and Marlys (Koeppe) Weispfenning. She grew up and graduated from high school in Moorhead, in 1968. She graduated from Concordia College, St. Paul, Minn. with a BA Degree in Elementary Education. On March 6, 1971, she married David Winterfeldt at New Hope, Minn. One son, Chad was born to them. After her husband's ordination in 1979, Kathy and David worked jointly for 35 years in ALC and ELCA Parish ministry, in congregations in Kadoka/Longvalley and Chamberlain in South Dakota; Gackle in North Dakota; Dimock, Dell Rapids and Miller in South Dakota; and Gibbon/Winthrop/Bismark in Minnesota. Over the years, Kathy held secretarial jobs, worked as a substitute teacher, and librarian. She devoted much of her life to parish ministry activities of the ELCA. At the time of her death, she was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon, Minn. She succumbed after an 11 year personal journey dealing with cancer. Kathryn was preceded in death by her mother, Marlys. Survivors include her father, Marvin; husband, Rev. David; son, Chad (Beth); brothers: James (Ruth), Gerald, Ronald (Peggy), and Jeffrey (Sarah); three grandchildren: Quentin, Eleanor and Cecily; and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Minn. with Rev. Alan Bray officiating. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, St. Peter, Minn. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 pm Monday at First Lutheran and also one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to ELCA World Hunger, ELCA Malaria Campaign, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, South Dakota Lutheran Outdoors, or South Dakota Synod Cameroon Roofs Fund. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangement.
