Elaine J (Menk) Kirby

Elaine J. (Menk) Kirby, age 93 of St. Peter, died Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Peter. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, St. Peter. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church or Ecumen Prairie Hill, St. Peter. St. Peter Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Elaine was born October 10, 1919 to Melchior and Eldora (Gunderson) Arvold in St. Peter. She graduated from St. Peter High School in 1937. On June 1, 1939, Elaine was united in marriage to Loren C. Menk. They were blessed with two children, Karen and Roger. After Loren's death in 1978, Elaine married Merton H. Kirby on January 2, 1982.

All but one year following high school graduation, Elaine was a lifelong resident of St. Peter. She worked for many years at Dry Drugstore and Odell Pharmacy and retired after a stint at Kirby Accounting. Elaine enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, shopping, socializing with family and friends, collecting dolls, and long walks (in her high heels.)

Elaine is survived by her children: Karen (Charles) Burg of St. Peter and Roger (Kathy) Menk of Birchwood, WI; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters: June Sontag and Gladys Stuntebeck both of St. Peter.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Loren Menk and Merton Kirby; and brother, Donald Arvold.
