Lola Ruth was born to Bessie (Davis) Lichtenberg and Hugo Lichtenberg in Mankato, MN on February 15, 1925. She was the second of their four children. In her youth Lola was a tomboy who enjoyed shooting marbles, swimming in Lake Balentine, and shooting hoops on the women's basketball team before her graduation from Mankato High School.
In June of 1945 Lola married Earl Freundl of Belgrade Township, Mankato at the Holy Rosary Parish House in North Mankato. With their future tied to the land, Earl and Lola purchased their first 160 acres of rich, black soil in New Sweden Township, Nicollet County, making it their home in 1947. The couple took great pride in abundant crops and well raised beef cattle, hogs and chickens.
Two daughters, Marjean and Terri, were born to them in 1951 and 1955. Through words and examples Lola taught their girls the value of an orderly home life, to revel in the fragrance and crispness of line dried clothing, and an attitude of acceptance and welcoming to all who arrived at her door.
Following Earl's death in 2004, Lola rekindled a lifelong friendship with L. M. "Barney" Anderson of Owatonna. The couple married in Lola's home May of 2006. Lola and Barney found beauty in nature, in particular, the newly developed wetland on Lola's farm, evening sunsets, the gentle touch of hands and a spring day with just enough wind to fly a kite.
Lola's exuberance for life lives on in those she loved most dearly. They are her husband, L. M. "Barney" Anderson of rural Nicollet, daughters " Marjean and husband Charles Hendrycks of rural Lafayette, Terri and husband Scott Schuette of Winthrop, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Philip Hendrycks and wife Amy Roepke-Hendrycks, their children Cale and Evelyn of Mound. Vana Hendrycks and husband Aaron Rasmusson and their children Ronan and Axel of Lindstrom, Weston Schuette and Rebecca Goodwin of Boise, ID and Paige Schuette and husband Christopher Knutson of Kasota as well as Lola's dearest friend Kazuko Larson and husband Wallace of New Fairfield, CT; beloved sister Linda Wood and husband Richard of Glenwood City, WI; treasured sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, dear friends and neighbors, the Monday Morning Club ladies; and the choir members of St. Paul's Church in Nicollet.
