Lila Wilmes, age 92 of Kasota, died Thursday, July 4, 2013 at her home surrounded by family.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Don Holmstrom officiating. Burial will be in Kasota Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Monday at St. Peter Funeral Home "Klein Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Lila was born April 21, 1921 to Oscar and Agnes (Zabel) Attenberger in Leith, North Dakota. On October 20, 1940, Lila was united in marriage to Gilbert "Buster" Wilmes in Iowa. They were blessed with seven children. Lila was a baker all of her life, as well as a mom and caregiver to everybody. She had worked for Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter State Hospital, and Del's Caf". Lila loved baking numerous cakes and writing in journals. Lila never stopped working, as she continued taking care of her family.
Lila is survived by her children: Dwain (Janet) Wilmes, Nancy (Byron) Johnson and Dawn (Jeff) Wilmes; daughter-in-heart, Deb; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous honorary grandchildren (who had a special place in Lila's heart); three siblings: Gladys, Ileen and Donald (Deb) and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Lila was preceded in death by her husband; four children: Butch, Rocky, Bryon and Joyce; daughter-in-law, Sandy; and two brothers: LaVern and Marvin.
