Thomas Lyle Cody, age 53 of Belle Plaine and formerly of St. Peter, died on Thursday, September 12 , 2013 in Rochester.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter with Rev. Eric Natwick and Rev. Diane Goulson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30am until the start of the service at the church. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Tom was born on June 6, 1960 in Minneapolis to Merritt and Jean (Roeder) Cody. In 1978 he graduated from St. Peter High School and in 1982 from Mankato State with a degree in construction management. He worked independently as a general contractor. His work included street sweeping, seal coating and line painting. On June 8, 2002 he was united in marriage to Ruth Laabs. Tom was a member Redeemer Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, Masonic Lodge #54 in St. Peter and the MN Geological Society. When he was in 4-H, Tom did horse training and showmanship; and in 1976, he rode across Minnesota in the Spirit of 76 Wagon Train. He was an avid fisherman anytime of the year and enjoyed fishing with his two sons. He liked to read, hunt for rocks, snowmobile, work with his hands, and sandblast both glass and stone.
Left to remember him are his wife, Ruth, sons: Lee and Hayden; his parents; siblings: Steve (Marcy), Cheryl (Tim) Deets, Dwight (Deb) and Michael (Sabrina); and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
