Christus "Chris" Kienlen, age 91 of St. Peter, died on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter with Fr. Todd Petersen officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, St. Peter. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the start of the service on Saturday at the church. St. Peter Funeral Home " Klein Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Chris was born on December 25, 1921 to Louis and Mary (Monahan) Kienlen in Buffalo, MN. He was raised in lower Traverse Township in Nicollet County. He attended John Ireland School and St. Peter High School. He served in the United States Army during WW II in the Philippines and was honorably discharged in 1946. On September 4, 1950 he was united in marriage to Marion "Myrt" McCabe at the Church of the Nativity in Cleveland, MN. He was a lifelong member of the Church of St. Peter.
Chris was a farmer and worked as a machinist at Year-A-Round Cab in Mankato. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and playing cards. He enjoyed traveling, especially to the 68th Signal Battalion Army reunions. He was a member of the American Legion where he enjoyed socializing with friends after Saturday mass and was a member of the Red Men Club where he enjoyed Friday night happy hour with his wife and many friends.
Chris is survived by his wife of 63 years, Myrt; his children: Joe (Teresa), Tom (Fran) and Kristy; his grandchildren: Jeff and Jennifer Wettergren, Kevin (Christina) and Emily, Matt (Michelle) Bergren, and Justin and Bradley; great grandchildren: Wyatt Wettergren, Cameron and Wesley Kienlen, and Blake, Sage and Bode Bergren; his brother, Raymond and many nieces, nephews and other relative.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steve in 1981; two sisters: Kathryn Michels and Alice Webster; and three brothers: Ralph, Robert (in infancy) and Bill.
