Rose Marie Kathrine was born the youngest of 10 children to Ernest and Magdalena (Leuthard) Amberg on August 17, 1921 in Chokio, MN. She graduated from Peabody School of Nursing in Webster, SD and spent three years with the Red Cross working with Polio patients outside of Chicago. She followed her friend Sal Pehrson to St. Peter where she met her husband Harry Nickel and they were married on May 20, 1947. They were married 53 years before his passing in 2000. She worked as an OB nurse at the St. Peter Community Hospital and in her retirement was very active. She traveled, helped with Meals on Wheels and volunteered in many ways. Rose Marie enjoyed flowers and plants, birds, playing cards, doing crafts and was compassionate caregiver for family and friends. Although frugal, she was always very fashion conscious and well dressed.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Dan (Shirley) and their son, Aaron; Doug (Carolynn) and children Trissy and Caryn and their families; and Mary (Greg) Burnes and children Ben (Christine) and Beth (Kiah) and son Gus; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband and nine siblings.
