Bernice R. Murray, known to many as "Grandma B" , age 90 of St. Peter died on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Scandian Grove Lutheran church in Norseland with Rev. Jerry Lanes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 until the start of the service at the church. Memorials may be directed toward Scandian Grove Lutheran or Oak Hills Living Center. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bernice was born on January 23, 1922 on the family farm in New Sweden Township to C. Ernest and Frances E. (Tanquist) Jonason. She attended Country School District 63 and is a 1939 graduate of St. Peter High School. She later attended Mankato State Teachers college, graduating with a business degree. She worked most of her life as a bookkeeper with various employers including: Ritt Electric in St. Peter, Fingerhut in Gaylord, Land O' Lakes in Mankato and retired as a clerk typist from the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter. She also had spent time working for Green Giant in Le Sueur.
Bernice spent most of her life on the family farm, which was homesteaded in 1858. She spent her last few years at Oak Hills in New Ulm. She was a lifetime member of Scandian Grove Lutheran Church, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities, having lunch at Di's diner and later Ron's Caf". She also enjoyed reading and driving around the countryside.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children: Leland "Buzz" Jonason of Edina and Ann (Michael) Wagner of Nicollet; grandchildren: Chase Jonason, Erin Jonason, Traci Wagner (Jay Larson), and Jamison Wagner; one great grandchild, Malia Wagner; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Glendon and Erwood, and sister Marjorie.
