Charles T. Kinson, age 84, of St. Peter passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato from medical complications.
A visitation will be held from 4-6 on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at St. Peter Funeral Home " Klein Chapel with a prayer service at 6:00 pm. Private burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, rural St. Peter at a later date.
Charles was the second son of U Kyaw Kin and Daw Aye Cho. He served in the British Army during WWII, Engineering Corp wireless Department stationed in Mysore, India in 1945-1946. He parachuted into Northern Burma, was captured by the Japanese and later released. He worked his way through the military ranks, eventually becoming Brigadier General.
He worked at the Namkham Hospital in Burma that was founded by Dr. Gordon Seagrave. In 1969 he came to the United States, first in St. Paul, and then moving to St. Peter. While living in St. Peter, he attended and graduated with his Bachelors degree from Gustavus Adolphus College. Charles and his wife Dr. Violet worked at the Community Treatment Center and State Hospital until retirement.
Charles is survived by daughter: Pauline Kinson Wilmes and husband Randy; grandsons: Sebastian and Kyle (Staci); great-granddaughter Rhyan; sisters: Clemie of England and Say Paw of Bruma; brothers: Claudius, Keelah and Htay all of Burma; brother in law Eric Poonyo of Burma and Sister in law Stella Poonyo of Le Center; nephews: Wai Poonyo of Canada, Htar Poonyo, Alvin (Olga) Poonyo and Gene (Deanna) Poonyo all of CA; and nieces: Pansy (Leslie) Winn and Mary Ann (Ellington) Khoo both of CA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Violet Kinson in 2004.
