Donald Lee Gardner, age 80 of St. Peter, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Oak Terrace Autumn Lane in North Mankato.
Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Church of St. Peter with Fr. Phil Schotzko officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Church of St. Peter with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
Donald Lee was born August 31, 1930 to Charles and Helen (Klocow) Gardner in St. Peter, MN. On February 19, 1955, Don was united in marriage to Renee "Lorene" Grommersch in St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Peter. They were blessed with four children. Besides his family, Don's passion was farming and hunting. He was a past member of Nicollet County Tractor Pull Board and participant of Tractor Pulling at local county fairs, and regional and state contests. Don was a life member of NRA, North American Hunting Club, and Golden Eagles. He was also a former member of NWTF and a sponsor member of Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Don invented and patented a trash guard for corn planters and designed liquid fertilizer tubes, also for corn planters.
Don is survived by his wife Renee; son, Charles T. (Patty) Gardner; daughters: Stacy A. (Daniel) Witte and Heidi M. Heath; grandchildren: Jessica, Levi, Nick, Marissa, Donald William, Chelsey, Joseph, and Brittany; and one brother: Dick (Joyce) Gardner.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey Gardner; and two brothers: Gerald and Ronald Gardner.
