Mary Jane Wendelschafer, age 60 of St. Peter, died on September 11, 2011 at the River's Edge Hospital in St. Peter after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Funeral service is 11:00 am, Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church in Norseland with burial in Scandian Grove Lutheran Cemetery following services. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 " 7:00 pm at the church and will continue one hour prior to services Thursday. St. Peter Funeral Home " Klein Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mary Jane Helen was born on July 3, 1951 in Mankato to Oliver Sr. and Helen (Arndt) Pehrson. She graduated from St. Peter High School in 1969 and from Mankato State with a degree in Business Administration. She was united in marriage to Thomas Wendelschafer on November 29, 1980 at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church in Norseland. They made their home in St. Peter and Mary worked for the State of Minnesota at the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center. She worked in vocational services with the developmentally disabled and the mentally ill and dangerous for 35 years. She was active at Scandian Grove Lutheran, serving on the church council for six years; two of those were as the treasurer. She was also treasurer during the time the new church was built. Mary was a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed league bowling, gardening, sewing and quilting. She was a very independent and outgoing woman who was always willing to help when needed. Most important to her, was her family and the time spent with them.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband Tom; son Ryan; brother, Oliver Pehrson, Jr.; sister Hermine Pehrson Berreau; niece, Hannah Pehrson (fianc" Curt Majeski) Berreau and nephew, Hans M. Perhson Berreau; aunt, Arlene Arndt Peterson and other relatives..

Preceding her in death were her parents; Oliver Sr. in 1999 and Helen in 2007.
