James P. "Jim" Sullivan, age 79 of St. Peter died on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 21, 2011 at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter with Fr. Phil Schotzko officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, St. Peter. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, November 20th at the church with a prayer service at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church Monday. Memorials may be directed toward Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice or the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
James Peter was born on October 29, 1932 in Le Center, MN to James Ronald and Alvina (Germscheid) Sullivan. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1950. He then joined the US Army and served during the time of the Korean Conflict. Jim returned home and worked as a mason for several years. During that time, he was united in marriage to Mary Dolores Hartmann in Le Sueur. He built a house in St. Peter that his family lived in for 53 years. He later worked as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service and after retiring there, worked for the city of St. Peter. He was a member of the Church of St. Peter where he was also a Knight of Columbus. Other organizations where Jim was a member include: the St. Peter American Legion, St. Peter Honor Guard, Redmen Club and the St. Peter Baseball Association. He enjoyed gardening, cards, traveling and sports. Most importantly, he cherished his family.
Jim is survived by his children: Pat (Jan), Tom (special friend Carol Peterson), Colleen (Dave) Szok, Jon (Patty), Jim, Paul (Mary), Mark (Deb) and Ann; 19 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; siblings: Patty Oberle, Mary Jo Roberts, and Jerry (Dixie); siblings-in-law: Buster (Harriet) Hartmann, Colleen Hartmann and Gary Hartmann; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 2005, and siblings-in-law: Tom Oberle, Skip Roberts, Betty and Lindy Lindgren, Danny Hartmann and Lyla Hartmann.
