Ronald B. "Moony" Woelpern, age 62, of St. Peter, died on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at his home.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 21 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel with Rev. Charles Degner officiating. Visitation will be held from 12-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, all donations will be presented to Mankato Hospice.
Ron was born on May 6, 1949 in St. Peter, MN to Dick and Lois (Cook) Woelpern. He graduated from St. Peter High School and attended Mankato State University. He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad shortly before he became ill in 1978. Ron enjoyed sports, playing cards, fishing, spending summers and the lake home, and the Redman Club, which he was a lifelong member. Ron was a long time member of the Crusaders and St. Peter Govenaires Drum Corp. Because of Ron's physical limitations, he had resided the past few years at a home provided by the Shiloh Hope organization. The staff; supported by Randy Frey and Jo Frey Hawkins, have truly been Ron's angels on earth. Ron's family would like to thank Shiloh's staff as well as the Mankato Hospice for the excellent care that was provided.
Ron is survived by his mother, Lois Woelpern; siblings: David (Bobbi) Woelpern, Daniel Woelpern, and Kelly Woelpern; niece and nephews: Rachel Nez, Ryan Woelpern, and Justin Leonard. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Woelpern; brother, Chuck Woelpern, and Chuck's sons, Curt and Ben Woelpern.
