Melvin Rusty Redning, age 62 of Naples FL, and formerly of St. Peter died on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at his home in Florida.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter with Rev. Charles Christensen officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, St. Peter. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 20th at St. Peter Funeral Home " Klein Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Melvin was born on November 16, 1949 in Alexandria MN to Melvin and Joan (Sundberg) Redning. The family moved to St. Peter where Melvin was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He graduated from St. Peter High School in 1967 and attended Mankato State College for one year. In 1968 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Woody" Erhorn and they later divorced. Melvin first was employed at the Sam Haugdahl Oil Company in St. Peter before working in construction. He later purchased the Embassy Bar in St. Peter and ran that business for 12 years. He then worked construction again for Mueller and Sons Construction Company before retiring for medical reasons.
Melvin was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the National Rifle Association and HOGs (Harley Owners Group). He enjoyed riding his Harley, working in his yard, collecting, watching football and NASCAR, animals and preserving the North American Wolf. Most of all, he cherished time with his children and grandchildren.
Melvin is survived by his children: Kelley (Pat) Beaumaster of Big Lake MN, Angela "Annee" (Don) Bennett of Naples FL, Josie Brown of San Diego CA and Andy Redning of St. Peter; eight grandchildren: Kelsey, Lyndsey, Zachary, Jackson, Rylee Rose, Mason, Hudson and Quinton; sister: Brenda (Randy) Mathwig of Kasota; nieces, nephews and special great nephew Barry; and his cat Kitty Bear.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Rusty is now riding his Harley down the beautiful Heaven Paths.
