Caroline Jeanne Straka, age 79, of Mankato and formerly of St. Peter died on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Mayo Clinic Health System " Mankato surrounded by her family.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 " 7:00 pm on Friday, December 30, 2011 at St. Peter Funeral Home " Klein Chapel. A private family service will be held. Memorials may be directed toward a charity of the donor's choice.
Caroline was born on September 23, 1932 in Lawron Township, Itasca County, Minnesota to Albert and Georgia (Rost) Anderson. She was raised in Lawron Township and graduated from Greenway High School in Coleraine in 1950. She was united in marriage to Lewis John Straka on October 8, 1951 in Bovey, Minnesota. They made their home in St. Peter where they raised their six sons. After raising her family, she worked in the Nicollet County Auditor's Office, in the Gustavus Adolphus College Business Office and then for Scholarship America. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, reading, knitting and needlework. Her great joy in life was family. She loved watching her sons and grandchildren in sports and other activities, having coffee and laughing with her sisters and cooking meals for family.
Grateful for having shared in her life are: her husband of 60 years, Lewis of Mankato; sons: Gary (Sheila) of Owatonna and their son Derek (Margo); Jerry of Whitefish Montana; Joseph (Cindy) of Whitefish Montana and their children Sara and Sam; Thomas (Deb) of St. Peter and their children Andrew (Nicole), Nathan (Rebecca), Maya, Thomas and Andon; Ronald (Elisa) of Chaska and their children Danielle, John and Allison; and Richard (Stacey) of Mankato and their children Colby and Madeline; four great grandchildren; and many other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings: Vernon Anderson, Gayle Underwood, and Julie Sumner.
