Martha E. Erickson, age 85 of LeCenter, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 11, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in LeCenter with Rev. Chris Shofner officiating. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Sunday at St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel with a 6:00 p.m. prayer service and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Martha Elizabeth McShea Erickson was born on December 21, 1924 in Greenbush, Minnesota, Roseau County to Thomas C. McShea and Clara Rubey McShea. She married Maynard Erickson in Winnipeg, Canada and then moved to Crookston area and eventually to St. Peter and Cleveland-LeCenter area. She worked for 33 years at the St. Peter State Hospital plus an additional six years part time. After retiring, she enjoyed spending winters in Inverness, Florida.
She was active in union and political activities, belonged to the Catholic Daughters and the Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliaries. She was a Eucharistic Minister in Cleveland and Florida. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, baking, cooking and reading.
She is survived by children, Jerry (Sandy) Erickson, Betty (Bill) Witzany, Linda (Bob) Lunak, Eugene (Julie) Erickson, Randy Erickson (Linda Haas), Mary Feser, Maynard Mark Erickson, Debra LaBarr, Daniel Erickson, Barbara (Herbert) Wachtel, David Erickson, Nancy Schugel (Paul Ficaia), Judy (DeWayne) Skinner, and Tim (Christy) Erickson; siblings, Jerome (Marge) McShea, and Mary Jolley; sister-in-law, Doris McShea; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard in 1975; sons-in-law, Jim Feser and Don LaBarr; granddaughter, Peggy Erickson; also her sisters, Ann Marko, Rose Walsh, Clara Berry; and brothers, Charles McShea, Andrew McShea, John McShea, and Herman McShea; brother-in-law, Charles Jolley.
