Frederick Dugan Powers, 91, of St. Peter, MN passed away on January 28, 2010 at the home of his daughter, Mary Powers, surrounded by his loving family. He died after a short illness of cancer.
The visitation will be held from 3:00 " 6:00 pm at the Church of St. Peter, 1801 West Broadway, in St. Peter on Sunday, January 31, 2010 with a prayer service at 5:30 pm. The funeral will be at 11:00 am with an hour of visitation prior to the service at the Church of St. Peter on Monday, February 1, 2010. Father Phil Schotzko will officiate. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter following the Mass of the Christian Burial. Lunch will be served at the John Ireland cafeteria following the interment.
Fritz was born in St. Peter, Mn on August 29, 1918. He was the second child of four children of Frederick and Frances (Dugan) Powers. He was married to Jane Catherine Cahill in 1945 and she preceded him in death in May of 2006.
Fritz attended John Ireland Elementary School and graduated from St. Peter High School in 1936. He was a dairy and crop farmer in Traverse Township his entire life until his retirement. Fritz enjoyed playing cards, gardening, discussing politics and reading. He was notably devoted to his wife, Jane, and their eight children.
He is survived by his brother Dr. Bernard J. Powers and his wife Mariella and his sister Patricia Bernhard. He is survived by his children Jane (Mark) Schuck, Patricia (Richard Graham), Frederick (Rose) Powers, Michael (Patty) Powers, Mary Ann Powers, Kathryn (Jeff) Christopher Molly Powers Norris. He is also survived by grandchildren (Jane) Angie Schuck Flack, Kelly Moeller; (Pat) Nora, Nell, and Calley Graham; (Fred) Fritzie, Jake, Nick Powers and Kelsie Mutzke; (Michael) Erin, Emmy Lou and Karen; (Mary) Dugan and Matt Mogensen; (Kate) Nicole and MacKenzie Christopher; (Molly) Patrick and Jack Norris and 15 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Kurth, his daughter Ann Marie, and two granddaughters.
Memorials are preferred to the Church of St. Peter or the St. Peter Area Food Shelf or Immanual St. Joseph's Hospice.
