James Dean Freerksen, age 67 of St. Peter, died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at his home.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter with Rev. Charles Degner officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday, February 22, 2010 at St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

James was born on May 5, 1942 in Eldora, IA to Raymond and Marjorie (Shoemaker) Freerksen. He was united in marriage to Darlene Wencl on August 5, 1967 in Rochester, MN. He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Jim enjoyed running and walking and he competed in several marathons. He enjoyed spending time with his friends. He played cards and was an active member of the area Lupus Support Group. He crocheted blankets for friends, family and nursing home residents. He liked being outdoors and taking care of his lawn. He spent countless hours playing board games and hanging out with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, Jay (Kristine) of Hershey, NE; daughters, Melinda Halverson of Faribault, Elline (Mike) Simota of Le Sueur, Kelley (Robert) Emmers of Le Center, Amy (Jay) Welsch of Lake Crystal; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth (Lavonne), Roger (Sheila), Mike (Gayle), Dennis (Kim), Harold, Robert (Kim), and Brian; sister, Doris Trahms; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene; and a brother, Alvin.
