James Monahan

James "Jim" Monahan, age 86 of St. Peter, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.

Memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter with Fr. Phil Schotzko officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, St. Peter, with military honors. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the start of the service at the church. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jim was born on October 15, 1923 in St. Peter to Patrick and Clara (Haney) Monahan. He is a St. Peter High School graduate and is a WWII veteran, serving in the US Navy from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Jim was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Liz" Anderson on December 31, 1952 at the Church of St. Peter. He worked as a steam fitter and was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union for 40 years until his retirement in 1985.

Jim enjoyed fishing, bow hunting, playing cards and especially being with family and the trips to Las Vegas with them. He was a member of the St. Peter American Legion, VFW and the Last Man's Club.

Jim is survived by his children: Joe (Vicki) of Colorado Springs CO, Dennis of Tucson AZ, Jeff of Chicago IL, Janet of Tucson AZ and Tom (LuAnn) of Minneapolis MN; 2 grandchildren: Marya and Kyle; and brother, Dick (Janet) Monahan of Le Sueur.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Liz.
