George M Lesnar

d. April 29, 2010

George M. Lesnar, 87, longtime St. Peter barber, passed from this life on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter, MN. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the Church of St. Peter with Fr. Phil Schotzko officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Lesnar was born August 27, 1922 to Anton and Lucy Lesnar in Grenville, South Dakota. He attended school in Grenville. George served in the Navy from 1944-1946, spending 14 months in the South Pacific. After his discharge he attended Lee's Barber School in St. Paul. In 1949, George was united in marriage to Caroline Kunkel at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Maple Lake, MN. He worked at a barber shop in Owatonna before coming to St. Peter. He owned and operated the barbershop in St. Peter at the same location from 1950 until 2007. George retired at age 85.

George was an avid fisherman all his life, and loved getting out on the lake with his boat. He would just beam when he brought that stringer full of fish home. He also enjoyed gardening, traveling, and was an all around handyman. But what he liked most was talking to people and he was interested in almost any subject. Dad was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and loved their visits. His months spent at the Benedictine home were happy ones. He enjoyed his friends there, and loved teasing the nurses, who he said treated him so well. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, and a lifelong member of the American Legion.

George is survived by his 3 sons: Jim (JoAnn) Lesnar of Ashville, NC, George (Debra) Lesnar of Spring Grove, MN, and Tom (Chris) Lesnar of Freeland, MI; 3 daughters: Diane (Marvin) Noyd of St. Peter, Yvonne Gostonczik of North Mankato, and Mary Hernandez of Rohnert Park, CA; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a half-sister, Verna Mundry of Apple Valley, MN; sister-in-law, Lorraine Lesnar of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Caroline, his parents, 8 brothers, 9 sisters, and son-in-law Bill Gostonczik.

WE ARE SURE GOING TO MISS YOU DAD.
