Ellen S. Brown, age 100 of St. Peter passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Grandview Good Samaritan Center in St. Peter.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter with Rev. Alan Bray officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, St. Peter. Visitation will be from 5 -7 pm on Tuesday at St. Peter Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Ellen Sophia was born on October 4, 1909 in Belgrade Township to Nels and Anna (Quick) Johnson. She lived in Belgrade Township until her marriage to Reuben Brown on February 20, 1935 at the farm. They lived in Nicollet Township and moved back to Belgrade Township and lived there until 1948 when they moved to Oshawa Township.
They joined First Lutheran hurch in St. Peter in 1948 where she was a Sunday School teacher, member of the women's circle group and did other volunteer work. She worked in the housekeeping department at Gustavus Adolphus College for 21 years and was a volunteer at the Nicollet County Fair for 37 years. She did volunteer knitting for Santa Anonymous for many years and was a member of the Senior Citizens organization as well as an officer several times.
Ellen is survived by two sons Eldon (Margo) of St. Peter and Leonard (Phillys) of Grand Rapids; 4 grandchildren: Julie (Ryan) Marthaler, Jeff Brown, Kim Brown (Daniel Arnold) and Melissa Brown; three great grandchildren: Sydney and Paige Marthaler and Maxwell Brown; 2 sisters-in-law: Ethel Johnson and Elsie Sohre of Mankato and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son: Roland; five brothers: George, Lawrence, Fred, Oscar and Theodore and one sister: Mabel.
