Dorothy Jane Wiedow, daughter of Carl and Gertie Hanson, was born April 9, 1931 in Edgerton, MN. Dorothy went to her Lord May 18, 2010, she was 79 years old. Dorothy grew up and attended high school in Edgerton, MN. She was married July 14,1951 and had five children Robert, Cindy, Steve, David, and Curt Bruns. They made their home in St. Peter, MN and were members of First Lutheran Church. Mother met Carl Wiedow and his two children and they united the two families on Aug 6, 1976 and they made their home in North Mankato.
Mom was employed for over 30 years at the St. Peter State Hospital. While raising her 5 children and working full-time Mom attended night school and received a degree as a LPN. Mom retired early from the State due to health reasons and enjoyed life with Carl, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom always thanked God for her job and said, she enjoyed what she did and felt it was her way of serving the Lord by helping people when they needed it most. Mom continued to serve on the State Hospital's museum committee and volunteer counsel. The most important things in Mom's life were her Lord, her family, her friends. Mom always embraced life and had a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed cards, garage sales, and fishing.
Mom is survived by her loving husband Carl, devoted children and their spouses, Judy Bruns, Cindy and (Dwight) Schmit, Steve and (Paula) Bruns, David and (Peggy) Bruns, Curt and (Julie)Bruns, Danny Wiedow, Barb Wiedow and Chari and (Larry) Kotval. Dorothy was blessed with fourteen grandchildren Nathan, Matt, Trish, Tiffanie, Jenny, Mike, Joette, Jodi, Heather, Nick, Elizabeth, Eric, Lexi, Jack and Greg and twelve great-grandchildren. Mom had three siblings Delores Veenhuis, Evelyn Hoekman, Richard Hanson.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her son Robert and her grandson Nathan. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday May 24th, 2010 in St. Peter at First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 3-6 on Sunday May 23rd at St. Peter Funeral Home and an hour before the service at church on Monday. Saint Peter Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Memorials may be directed toward the First Lutheran Church Radio Program or Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospice.
