Marlys M. Slarks, age 78 of St. Peter, MN, died Friday, June 25, 2010 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 28, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter, with Rev. Charles Christianson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the St. Peter Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church Monday. Burial will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Marlys Slarks was born March 30, 1932 to Obert and Rose Barsness in Faribault, MN. She graduated from Minneapolis South High School and attended college at the University of Minnesota and Indiana University in Bloomington. She married J. Don Slarks on June 13, 1950. She held various positions at banks and also worked at Indiana University and Gustavus.
Marlys is survived by sons, Gary (Judy) Slarks, Randy Slarks; daughter, Sandra Rose (Mark) Rheaume; grandchildren, James P. Slarks, Scott Slarks, Melissa Rheaume, Matthew Rheaume, Alisha Rheaume, Cody D. Slarks; siblings Robert (Betty) Barsness, sister-in-law, Mary Ann Barsness.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Barsness; and brother-in-law R. Ivan Slarks.
