Lucille M. Michael, age 99 of Lake Washington, died on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cleveland with Pastor Shelly Olson officiating. Burial will be at Cleveland Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 am Tuesday until the start of the service at the church. St. Peter Funeral Home " Klein Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lucille was born on Lake Washington (current location of LeSueur County Park) on February 18, 1911. Her birth parents were George and Lena (Wendelschafer) Kendall. Lucille's mother died when she was 10 days old, she was adopted by her maternal grandparents, GCH and Mary (Leath) Wendelschafer. When Mary died she lived with her grandfather until age nine and then lived with her Uncle Freddie and Hannah Wendelschafer until graduation.
Lucille graduated from Cleveland Public School with honors in 1928. She attended Evard Morris Secretarial School and worked in Minneapolis for a year. On September 5, 1929, she was united in marriage to Theodore Michael. They farmed all their lives and for eight years, Lucille worked for Johnson Overall Factory in St. Peter. They retired from farming in 1967. Lucille and Ted were married 60 years.
Lucille loved the lake, fishing, farming, family and grandchildren. She was the oldest lifetime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cleveland and the oldest alumnus of Cleveland Public Schools.. She taught Sunday school, attended Ladies Aid, Bible class and extension. Lucille always said;" I was born, and will die on the shores of Lake Washington."
She is survived by daughters: Elaine (Gene) Germscheid of Lake Washington and their children Colleen (Rich) McCabe, Michael (Kim) Germscheid Joanne (Pat) Corrow, and Greg (Karen)Germscheid all of Lake Washington, Diane (Kim) Van Sickle and Dave (Shelley) Germscheid of Garden City; and daughter Janice (John) Lynch of St. Peter and their children Jane (James) Williams of Mendota Heights, Jeffrey (Staci) Lynch of Lake Jefferson, Jerry (Teresa) Lynch of Shakopee and Jill(Chuck) Wenner of Lake Washington; stepsister Jane Stauff and her children Mary Trimbo of Indiana and Ruth (Ross) Heilman of Cleveland;sister-in-law Margaret Michael; 29 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ted in 1989, half brother Clifford Kendall, step sisters Pauline Wendt, step brother Fred Wendelschafer Jr., her parents and many other relatives.
