Allan R. Knight, age 95, of St. Peter, died Friday, November 30, 2007, at the Benedictine Living Community of St. Peter, in St. Peter, MN.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. (visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m.) Monday at Union Presbyterian Church in St. Peter. Interment is at the Willerup United Methodist Church cemetery in Cambridge, WI. St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Union Presbyterian Church, the American Baptist Churches USA, or Habitat for Humanity.
Allan was born in Plainfield, NJ, on July 28, 1912, to John and Edith Leonard Knight. He married Pearl Prescott, of Cambridge, WI, on September 18, 1937. They had four children: Phyllis (1939), Douglas (1943), Rolf (1946), and Karl (1951).
In 1935 Allan received the B.A. degree from Wheaton College, and in 1937 he was awarded the divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY. In 1938 he was ordained as an American Baptist minister. He earned the Th.D. degree in 1946 from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, PA.
Rev. Knight served churches in Port Murray, NJ (1937-1941), Cortland and Summer Hill, NY (1941-1948), Newburgh, NY (1948-1953), and Council Bluffs, IA (1953-1965). From 1965 until retirement in 1977 he was Executive Minister of the Nebraska Baptist State Convention.
Rev. Dr. Knight was the co-author of "The New Life," published by Judson Press, with nearly a million copies in print and translations into some eight languages.
Allan is survived by sisters Jeanette Dube and Edith Sampson of Tinton Falls, NJ; sons Douglas A. Knight and wife Catherine Snow of Nashville, TN, Rolf T. Knight and wife Susan Cullen of Wareham, MA, and Karl W. Knight and wife Barbara Kaiser of St. Peter, MN; grandchildren Margaret Klapperich and husband John Mark Klapperich of Milwaukee, WI, Lisa Knight and husband Edward Yazijian of Greenville, SC, Jonathan Rinehart of Brooklyn, NY, Jonathan Snow of Jamaica Plain, MA, and Erick Knight of St. Peter; and great-grandson Stefan Knight Yazijian of Greenville, SC. He was preceded in death by wife Pearl Prescott Knight in 2003 and daughter Phyllis Marie Rinehart in 1987.
