Marian L. Pettis, 85, of St. Peter, died, Friday, December 28, 2007 at Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 31, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church, Kasota, with Pastors Chris Conlin and Steve Boots officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, from 3-6 p.m., at St. Peter Funeral Home/ Klein Chapel. Burial will be in Kasota Hill Cemetery.
Marian Lucille Everett Pettis was born to LaForest Dorn and Olive Mae (Hert) Everett at Ottawa Village, MN on June 8, 1922. She attended Cleveland Public School and graduated from St. Peter High School and Le Center Teacher Training School. She taught rural schools in Le Sueur County for 5 years before her marriage to Avery Milton Pettis at the First Presbyterian Church in Kasota on June 9, 1946.
They farmed on the John and Ira Pettis homestead in Kasota Township for 2 years. In 1948 they purchased a farm in Lake Prairie Township near Norsel where they resided until 1968. They moved to Traverse Township where they lived until Avery's death in 1992 and since has lived in St. Peter.
She was a member of the Kasota Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women's Society. Marian also served as youth advisor, cradle roll superintendent, Sunday school superintendent, Bible school director and taught Sunday School for many years. She was the children's librarian as St. Peter Public Library and served on the Campfire board. Marian worked at Grandview Care Center for 14 years and served as the first president of Grandview Auxiliary. She also volunteered at Community Health Care Center and Grandview Good Samaritan Center.
She is survived by two sons and their wives: Dean and Peggy of Mankato, Verl and Sandra of St. Peter; daughter, Lynnette Hoffman and husband Donald of Cleveland; also 8 grandchildren: Dan Pettis and wife Maureen of St. Peter, Steve Pettis and wife Natasha of St. Peter, Andrew Pettis of Minneapolis, Amanda Pettis and husband Matthew Eastvold of Northfield, Amber Becker and husband Robert of North Mankato, Amy Ellickson and husband Tim of Cleveland, Abigail Griffiths and husband Shawn of Madison Lake, and Andrea Hoffman of Brookings SD; 10 great-grandchildren, Avery Eastvold Pettis, Charlie and Wesley Becker, Mitchell and Mackenzie Pettis, Ava Pettis, Bailey and Brandon Ellickson, Ben and Emily Griffiths; brother, Donald Everett and wife Eunice of Cleveland; sister Beverly Robinson and Husband Maynard of Cleveland, Many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, grandson Michael Avery Pettis, great-grandson Daniel Austin Ellickson, parents, and 3 infant brothers.
