Roland Neils, 81, retired manager of the St. Peter Lampert Building Center passed away on February 4, 2008 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Visitation will be held from 4:30 -7:00 on Friday, February 8th at the church. Burial will take place at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Roland was born on February 8, 1926 to Edward and Otillie Neils in Vawter, MN. He graduated from New Ulm High School in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S Naval Reserve Officers Training Corp. in March of 1944. He was honorably discharged on June 15, 1946.

Roland married Lucille Meyer on April 9, 1946 in Courtland MN. While employed by Lampert Building Center for 40 years, they resided in New Ulm, Bristol, SD and St. Peter. He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on the council as president and treasurer, on the Board of Elders and in the church choir. He was a member and past president of the St. Peter Lion's Club, member and past treasurer of the St. Peter Baseball Association and past chairman of the St. Peter Housing Authority. He also was a member of the St. Peter American Legion and Last Man's Club.

Roland is survived by his wife Lucille (Lucy); Children: Linda (Les) Mull of Sparta WI, Steven (Yvonne) of Woodbury, Lori (Jerry) Ewings of Deforest WI, Jane of Cottage Grove and Terry (Amy) of North Mankato; 16 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 2 brothers: Herbert (Priscilla) of New Hampton IA and Ralph (Orpha) of Portland OR; sister-in-law Lois (Alvin) Stankey of Mankato; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Memorials are preferred to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church.
