Marjorie Seitzer Shepherd, 90, of St. Peter, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2008 at the Benedictine Living Community of St. Peter, Minnesota. Margie was born in St. Peter on December 27, 1917 as the first child to Henry B. and Kathryn (Boys) Seitzer. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Shepherd Jr., her only child Richard Shepherd III, as well as her sister Betty Seitzer Babcock and brother Richard Seitzer. She is survived by her brother Mark Seitzer, sister Marlyn Seitzer Miller, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Margie loved to entertain. She started playing the piano with her father as a young teenager at wedding dances and Vaughn's Hillside Club. Starting in her early twenties, she was the organist for the Church of St. Peter where she played at all the masses for many years. In addition, during WWII she worked for the Office of Price Controls in St. Peter. After the war, she married Richard Shepherd Jr. on November 16, 1946. Margie, Dick and their son Richard Shepard III (Dickie) relocated to Mesa, Arizona in 1955. Margie continued her love of music playing professionally for over twenty years in the Phoenix area including the Maricopa Inn, the Western Lounge and, as a marquee performer at the Hiway House. As well, she and Dick ran a Hammond music store and the Bee Line Trap Shooting Club. During the summers, she and Dick would return to Minnesota to spend time with family and friends at the Walker Bay Resort, in Walker, Minnesota. After 46 years in Mesa, she and Dick returned to St. Peter.
Margie brightened up every room she was ever in. All who knew her loved her and were loved by her. She will be dearly missed by the many people she touched throughout her life.
Memorial mass will be at 11:30 AM Tuesday, April 8 at the Church of St Peter (Catholic). Family will greet guests at the church beginning at 9:30 AM. Memorials preferred to the Benedictine Living Community of St. Peter. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
