Marilyn Joann Nielsen (age 79) of St. Peter died Monday, June 16, 2008 peacefully at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 23, 2008 at First Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Inurnment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. There will be a sharing of memories on Sunday, June 22nd at St. Peter Funeral Home " Klein Chapel from 5-7 pm and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Marilyn was born on September 9, 1928 in Comfrey, MN to Ewalt B. and Mabel M. (Johnson) Nelson. She grew up and attended school in Windom, graduating from high school in 1946. In 1948, she married Milton Nielson in her hometown. Marilyn and Milt spent their early married years in a variety of places around the country and in South America while Milt played professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians organization.
In 1954, they returned to Windom where they settled and raised a family. During their "Windom years", Marilyn and Milt were blessed with 2 sons: Robert (1948) and Richard (1950) and twin daughters: Lynette and Lori (1958). They moved the family to St. Peter in June of 1967 where Milt managed and they eventually owned Nielsen Chev. "Olds Inc.
Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping, going out to lunch and entertaining family and friends, particularly around the holidays. She was proud of her membership in P.E.O. and her church home was First Lutheran Church in St. Peter. During retirement, Marilyn and Milt had many fond memories of spending time with family and friends at their second home in Mesa, AZ.
Marilyn is survived by four children: Robert (Linda) of St. Peter, Richard (Vicki) of Waseca, Lynn (Paul) Rislove of St. Peter and Lori Nielsen of St. Peter; a sister, Lila Mae Nelson of Windom; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Milt, infant daughter Rachelle, grandson Troy Nielsen (on May 24, 2008), parents and a brother, Merle Nelson.
