Marvin Oscar Attenberger, age 85 of Kasota, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at the Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2008 at St. Peter Funeral Home- Klein Chapel with Rev. Al Girtz officiating. Burial will be in Kasota Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
Marvin was born on August 26, 1922 in Minnesota Lake to Oscar and Agnes (Zabel) Attenberger. He attended school at Immanuel Lutheran School in Mankato. He was united in marriage to Agnes Schneider on October 31, 1944. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was on a ship for 32 days in the Indian Ocean that was torpedoed. After the ship sank, he spent four days on a life raft before being rescued. After his military service, he was a stone cutter and crane operator at Babcock Stone Company until his retirement in 1981. Marvin enjoyed taking care of animals, especially his dogs, horses, and goats.
He is survived by six children; Donald (Bev) Attenberger of LeCenter, Barb (Orange) Flowers of Mankato, Jim Attenberger of LeCenter, Earl Attenberger of LeSueur, Ione (Bill) Adams of LeCenter, and Eugene Attenberger and special friend Patty of Kasota; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lila Wilmes of Kasota, Eileen Kreutzer of Mankato, and Gladys Drake of St. Peter; brother, Donald (Deb) Attenberger of rural Kasota; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes in 1998; and brother, Vern Attenberger.
