Peggy Schwichtenberg, age 83 died on Tuesday July 15, 2008 in St. Peter, MN. A memorial service will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 18, 2008 at St. Peter Funeral Home " Klein Chapel. A private family graveside service will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Peter
Peggy was born on January 5, 1925 in Rockford, IL to Ida and John Hammer. Peggy was a 1942 graduate of West Rockford High School. She then graduated from the Swedish American Hospital School of Nursing in Rockford, IL in 1951. Peggy later attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and earned a Certification of Public Health Nurse. She met and married Morris Schwichtenberg in 1952. They lived on the south side of Lake Emily.
Prior to employment in Nicollet County Public Health, where she retired as Director of Public Health, she worked as School Nurse in the St. Peter School District and as an OB nurse at St. Peter Community Hospital.
As a member of First Lutheran Church in St. Peter, she belonged to Dorcas and Lydia Circles, and sewed many lap robes for shut-ins and baby quilts. She was a member of the Swedish American Alumni Association. She also volunteered at the Trading Post at the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center, reaching more that 4000 hours and 18 years of service.
Peggy is survived by one brothers and two sisters along with her four children: Kay (John) Carlson, and Paul, Lee (Alice) and Joel Schwichtenberg all of St. Peter; six grandchildren: Melissa (Adam) Marshall, Carol and Kayc Carlson, and Holly, Luke and Harley Schwichtenberg; and two great-grandchildren: Tyler and Trever Marshall.br />
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Morris, brother Frank Hammer and good friend Paul Anderson.
