Earl A. Gens, age 84 of St. Peter, died on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Mankato House Health Care Center surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter with Fr. Phil Schotzko officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Tuesday evening at the Church of St. Peter with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Earl was born on August 27, 1923 to August and Frieda (Maus) in Ceresco Township, Blue Earth County, MN. Se served in the US Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged on March 3, 1947. He was united in marriage to Delores Sieberg on August 29, 1945 in Washington, DC. He was a self-employed business owner in the St. Peter/Kasota area for many years. On July 26, 2003 he was united in marriage to Delores Harty at the Church of the Nativity in Cleveland.

Earl enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Church of St. Peter, the Le Center American Legion Post 108 and was a founding and lifetime member of the Eagle Lake American Legion Post 617.

Earl is survived by his second wife, Delores; five children: Marilyn (Richard) Steinborn of rural Kasota, Barbara (Walter Jr.) Van Guilder of Wells, Christine (Michael) Kelly of Mankato, Dennis (Laura) Gens and Nancy Kastens, both of Cleveland; two step-children: Vicky (David) Holicky and Gary (Rita) Harty, both of Le Center; 11 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. Five brothers: Walter (Cornelia) of Lake Crystal, Vern (Pearl) of Mankato, Lyle of Eagle Lake, Robert of Mapleton, and Richard of Good Thunder; five sisters: Elnora Becker and Lorna Jesse both of Madelia, Lucille Zimmel of Mahnomen, Donna Borneke of Eagle Lake and Betty Wolff of Madison Lake; two brothers-in-law: Jim Jennings of Ealge Lake and Ollie (Regina) Sieberg of Mankato; three sisters-in-law: Agnes Sieberg of Eagle Lake, Loretta Severns and Mary Ann (Tony) Oberle both of Mankato; and many nices and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents; his first wife, Delores in 1996; sister, Arlis Jennings; brother, Ruben; nine brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law.
