Allen R. Brouwer, age 59 of Kasota, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at his home in Kasota from a brain tumor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Kasota Presbyterian Church in Kasota with Chris Conlin officiating. Burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be on Friday, August 29th from 4-7 pm at St. Peter Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Allen was born on November 21, 1948 in Willmar, MN to Robert and Alice (Zimmer) Brouwer. He was raised on the family farm in Benson and enlisted in the Army after graduation. Al served his county as a SP5 from 1966 to 1970 at Ft. Bragg; where he earned a National Defense Service Medal. Upon his return, he attended college at the Mankato Area Technical Institute where he met Cheryl Franke. The two were joined in matrimony on July 21, 1973. God blessed them with two children: Julie and Scott.

He worked 32 years for Unimin in Ottawa as a maintenance person. He was an active member of the American Legion and the Presbyterian Church in Kasota where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling and his family.

Allen is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children: Julie (Steve) of Brookings SD, Scott (Lani) of Monticello, grandchildren: Christopher, Sofia, Ezra, Ty and Ryne; parents: Robert and Alice of Benson; siblings: Marlene (Duaine) of Montevideo, Daryl (Shari) of Milan, Jeanne (Bruce) of Loveland CO, Faye (Burl) of Montevideo; and mother-in-law Elaine Franke of Gaylord.

He is preceded in death by niece Lora VanDerPol, father-in-law Clarence Franke and several aunts and uncles.
