Stanley Robert Anderson, age 84 of St. Peter, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 11that St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Peter with Pastor Charles Degner officiating. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery in St. Peter. Visitation will be from 4-7pm on Wednesday evening at St. Peter Funeral Home. St. Peter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Stanley was born in St. Peter on May 30, 1924 to H.J. (Bud) and Viola (Brinkman) Anderson. He attended school in St. Peter and graduated in 1943. A WWII veteran, he served in the US Army from June 1943 to January 1946. His tour of duty included: Japan, the Philippines, New Zealand and New Caledonia. He earned a Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal and the Air Medal-Infantry Division 45.
He worked as a truck driver and later as a security guard at the St. Peter Security Hospital. In 1965 he became an owner/operator driving for Ace Lines, Inc of Des Moines IA until retiring in 1988. Stanley was united in marriage to Lucille Conrath on June 9, 1948 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in German Lake. They made their home in St. Peter where they raised seven children. They celebrated their 60th wedding Anniversary this past June.
He was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, the St. Peter American Legion Post 37, Lastman's Club, Le Center VFW post 1803, and the St. Peter Red Men's Club. He enjoyed flying and model airplanes, and spending time with his family.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Lucille; children: Linda of North Mankato, Karen (Dave) Ziesmer of Cleveland, Kathleen of North Mankato, David (Marie) of St. Peter, Donald of St. Peter, Kristine of St. Peter and Vicki of St. Peter; six grandchildren: Erin (Fianc" Ryan Moenck), Eric and Caitlin Ziesmer, Kenzie and Skylar Anderson, and Randi Anderson; three step-grandchildren: Clinton, Gregory and Lindsay McDonald; one sister, Cheryl (Richard) Weisgerber of St. Peter; sisters-in-law Gladys Anderson of St. Peter, and Shirley (John) Hager of Medford MN; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Donna Kay; brothers: Harlan, Willis, Carlton "Nook", Donald in infancy and sister Darlyn in infancy; his in-laws, Adolph and Viola Conrath; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Eugene F. and Lorraine Johnson.
