Keith Kreykes, age 91, of St. Peter, died Friday, February 28, 2014, at the Benedictine Living Community of St. Peter.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at the St. Peter Funeral Home " Klein Chapel, with Rev. Dan Horn officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.

Keith was born on May 17, 1922, in Orange City, IA. He was the son of Fred and Hattie (Vandervelde) Kreykes. Keith's family moved to Minnesota in 1936. He was a graduate of Mankato High School and attended Emmetsburg Jr. College in Emmetsburg, IA. He served on the submarine U.S.S. Sturgeon in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1945. Keith was united in marriage to Vera Gale Page on January 2, 1943, in New London, CT. He was employed with the Saint Peter State Hospital for thirty years. Keith was a member of Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church in Mankato.

Keith was charter member of the Nicollet County Sheriff's Posse, a Scoutmaster for Troop 52, a Project Leader for Nicollet County 4-H, Minnesota and U.S. Jersey Cattle Clubs, Nicollet County Fair Board since 1981, Tri-County Fair Board, Minnesota Harness Racing Association and U.S. Trotting Association, Traverse Township Board Supervisor, Nicollet County Historical Society where he served as wagonmaster for several wagon trains, and was a National Wagonmaster on the 1976 Bicentennial Wagon Train to Valley Forge. He enjoyed raising and riding horses, harness racing, and spending time with his family.

Keith is survived by his wife, Gale of St. Peter; two daughters, Koroll "Korky" Schaefer of St. Peter and Karen Hibbard and her special friend, Gary Hall of Mesa, AZ; three sons, Lawrence (Donna) Kreykes of Kasota, Fred (Mary) Kreykes of St. Peter, and Gean "Skip" Kreykes of Minneapolis; twelve grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four brothers-in-law; also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Mary Helen Sullivan, Blanche Weber, Wanda Ranniger, and Frances Anderson; one brother, Martin Kreykes; also one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
